Planning and execution of cross functional Merchandising initiatives and Category Management planning, execution, tracking and improvement. Develop executive level updates and presentations to communicate Merchandising’s strategies, priorities and progress made. Oversee inbound and outbound communications between Sysco Merchandising Services (SMS) organization and Operating Companies. Proactively work with Merchandising team to identify, diagnose, and mitigate exceptions versus Merchandising strategy plan.


Strategic Planning and Execution : Lead strategic planning and execution across Merchandising functions to drive high priority commercial initiatives (e.g. Assortment Strategy, Supplier Relationship Management, Master Data Management). Lead the Category Management annual operating planning across all categories and support Merchandising strategic planning (annual goal setting, multi-year strategic plans). Identify risks to strategic execution and work with cross-functional leadership to develop mitigation strategies.

Category Management Execution: Direct the team of Sr. Managers, Managers and Analysts that drive Category Management and Carrier Sourcing process execution to deliver against annual growth and margin targets. Anticipate and flag process-related elements of execution that need to be addressed. Category Management performance. Proactively identify and assess Category Management process improvement opportunities, lead process design and implement solutions at Sysco Corporate, Operating Companies and Specialty companies as required (e.g. European Imports). Take an “activist” role in identifying, escalating, and addressing execution roadblocks and delays.

Communication: Develop Merchandising executive level updates and presentations to communicate Merchandising’s strategies and progress made. Engage Merchandising and other relevant leadership to address issues and risks. Oversee inbound and outbound communications between Sysco Merchandising Services (SMS) organization and Operating Companies to ensure effective field Category Management execution and to utilize inquiries and feedback to identify process improvement opportunities.

Leadership: Develop and lead a team of professionals to create a center of excellence around Category Management strategy, strategic project management, and business solution development.



  • Bachelor’s degree


  • MBA degree


  • 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience. Merchandising experience required, and supply chain experience preferred. Three to five years business consulting skills of strategic planning, process re-engineering required, and executive presentation required.



  • Highly developed influencing skills with the ability to easily connect in a credible manner with leadership

  • Able to drive consensus among key stakeholders with diverse needs and interests

  • Collaborative team player who is able to synthesize feedback and direction from multiple stakeholders

Planning, Organizing, and Execution Skills

  • Possesses a deep understanding and demonstrated capability for strategic planning, process design, portfolio management, and project management

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, adapting to shifting priorities and meeting deadlines


  • Strong communicator who can design impactful presentations to customers, suppliers and executive leadership

  • Organizationally savvy and able to appropriately tailor messages and mediums, synchronize, socialize, and cascade communications

  • Able to establish credibility quickly with senior leaders in order to engage, push back, and encourage


  • Expert in business measurement definition and tracking (e.g. KPIs)

  • Possesses a strong general business acumen

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

  • Identification and prioritization of Category Management process changes and improvements

  • Resource allocation of team members

  • Hiring decisions within annual plan

  • Departmental expense management within annual plan
