The Technology organization within Sysco is responsible for the life cycle planning of business applications through the phases of strategize, architect, select, deploy, operate, evolve, and retire. The Sr. Director Technology BP (Business Partner) manages a capability group that has specific responsibility for building or configuring, maintaining or enhancing, and eventually decommissioning applications through their life cycle. Specifically, this leader partners with HR and Shared Business Services to deliver and support technical solutions that drive HR, Payroll, and Incentive Pay tactical, strategic, and transformational programs. This work is guided by Sysco business priorities and objectives, as well as regulatory and compliance requirements.

Leadership and Management Responsibilities:

The Sr. Director Technology BP will oversee all activities that optimize the value, cost and risk of applications that enable key business capabilities:

  • Provide technical vision, strategy, delivery and support for HR (Talent Acquisition, HR Administration, Total Rewards, Talent Management), Payroll, Benefits and Incentive Pay applications and platforms.

  • Provide leadership, vision, and direction within the technology organization to focus on work that will enable the company to achieve its goals.

  • Work with the Technology Leadership Team and other Technology leaders to develop the overall strategy for supporting the respective functional capabilities in line with the business priorities.

  • Develop productive relationships with business leaders across the organization to influence how applications can enable new sources of value.

  • Lead the respective technology team to follow Sysco’s Agile methodologies and practices to deliver faster, higher quality capabilities to the business.

  • Provide support to the respective technology team that facilitates innovative and experimental capability work to test new ideas with bounded cost and time frames.

  • Manage respective Technology group personnel, developing their skills and capabilities to meet the needs of the organization, as well as building on existing recruiting capabilities to address new needs and skills gaps. Determine where opportunities to insource work for greater value to Sysco exist, and act on those opportunities.

  • Manage relationships with major vendors and service providers to ensure they cost-effectively meet the needs of the organization.

  • Conduct regular surveys of stakeholder satisfaction with the respective Business leadership team. Where necessary, implement action plans to improve satisfaction.

  • Manage support management issues, and lead the team to eliminate common issues.

  • Management of globally sourced agile development teams including technical forecasting, budgeting, talent and vendor management.

  • Influential interaction with broader Business Technology team in areas or architecture, infrastructure strategy, portfolio management and security.


    The Sr. Director Technology BP’s primary responsibility is to ensure the business capabilities cost-effectively meet the needs of the business as a whole by:

  • Overseeing the assessment of the technical and business fitness of the capability portfolio and their associated costs and risks.

  • Facilitating the capability governance process to gain consensus on a prioritized set of measurable business outcomes that applications must support.

  • Working with stakeholders to define a prioritized set of business outcomes and work to accomplish those outcomes within the limitations of the budget.

  • Working with stakeholders to accomplish this work in a way that improves the business and technical fitness of the Business Capability portfolio and minimizes its ongoing support costs.

  • Overseeing the respective Technology organization's successful delivery of these business outcomes in partnership with business colleagues.

  • Overseeing benefits realization to ensure that business outcomes are achieved.

  • Overseeing support activities in conjunction with infrastructure, security, and operations to ensure the Business Capabilities perform well in production.

  • Working with the chief information security officer (CISO) to ensure that the respective Technology organization's capabilities are effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.

  • Expansion of emerging tech (RPA, RDA, Chatbot, etc.) to drive automation and enhanced employee experience.

    Budgeting, Finance and Administration:

    The Sr. Director Technology BP will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the respective Technology organization including staffing, budgeting, and other relevant management functions, and is required to hold all capability delivery teams accountable for optimizing the cost, risk, and value of those capabilities throughout their life cycle. This is a sensitive role dealing with commercial risks and significant costs. The organization must have a high level of confidence in the integrity and track record of the individual appointed to this role.


  • Managing a team of at least 10 members in application development, implementation, or other management.

  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated leadership experience building cross-organizational consensus with exposure to technology providers and/or business clients.

  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience managing a high-performing, cohesive team.

  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience in liaising with middle and senior management

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor technology management and technology professionals.

  • A bility to organize several teams and focus on best practices.

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in computer science, engineering, finance, business management or a related field.

  • Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical people to enhance understanding and drive decisions that lead to positive outcomes.

  • proven ability to collaborate, build relationships and influence individuals at all levels in a matrix-management environment (as well as external vendors and service providers) to ensure that segregation and overlapping roles are identified and coordinated.

  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and management of multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.

  • Strong analytical, data-processing and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in process formulation and improvement.

  • Experience with employee analytics and employee engagement platforms.


    The Sr. Director Technology BP must have in-depth knowledge and experience of the following:

  • Financial accounting and reporting practices applicable to applications, costs and risks.

  • IT contracts and their likely cost implications.

  • Engagement with procurement and legal contract advisors for additional information.

  • IT applications, operations, service and support organizations.

  • Data processing, analysis and quality management tools.

  • Development and implementation of processes and policies.

  • Agile development, and DevOps principles and frameworks

  • Proven strategy and delivery experience with Workday HR, ADP, Varicent (incentive pay), Thrive (LMS), etc.
