Summary:
The Sr. Manager’s primary role, as part of the Category Management Program Office, is to manage a portfolio of Product Categories and lead cross-functional teams through the Category Management process to achieve annual gross profit improvement targets. To achieve this, the Sr. Manager manages the lifecycle of Category Management events within their portfolio working directly with Merchandising. Sr. Directors and Vice Presidents.
Category management events go through Sysco’s 6 step process for direct purchasing, including: Marketing and Customer insights, Assortment Strategy, Strategic Sourcing, and National Execution. This role provides the opportunity to work with leaders in Sysco’s product category teams, sourcing, supply chain, procurement, quality assurance, field merchandising, logistics and sales and marketing. As part of the Category Management team, you will be among the experts that continually refine the Sysco’s Category Management process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Category Portfolio Management:
Plan and manage multiple Category Portfolios to achieve an annual gross profit improvement goal
Actively manage Category Management supplier contract lifecycle and contract extension processes
Manage the publication of key Category Management reports including category timelines and financial forecasting
Lead annual Profit Planning and Forecasting for multiple Category Portfolios
Regularly present to and interface with Merchandising Sr. Directors and Vice Presidents to gain alignment for key Category Management and Carrier Sourcing decisions
Plan, manage, and improve the execution of the Category Management and Carrier Freight Sourcing programs:
Plan category events and tailor standard activities based on needs of the category
Prepare and review event performance with category leaders and establish plans to achieve financial goals
Create category performance material and present to senior management
Monitor category event activities and resolve critical issues
Facilitate execution of CatMan events as needed
Support and coach team members in learning the category management process
Track and report event progress through the category event lifecycle
Prepare teams for contract renewal/extension proposals to senior management
Identify and drive improvements to the category management process
Provide leadership to cross-functional Category Management teams as the subject matter expert on the end to end Category Management process
Plan, manage, and drive large strategic projects to achieve top priority business goals:
Partner with Sr. Directors and Vice Presidents to identify and adjust projects to achieve fiscal goals
Lead all phases from opportunity analysis through implementation and benefit realization
Establish project objectives, goals, scope, and metrics
Create detailed project plans to achieve goals
Assess resource needs, onboard team members, and assign work
Facilitate workshops and project meetings to resolve risks, issues or scope change
Report progress to Sr. Directors and Vice Presidents
Drive development of internal team processes and capability, including:
Forecasting and annual planning
Event management
Continuous improvement methodology
Observe team member performance and identify development opportunities
Develop learning programs and practical application to grow capabilities
Collaborate with department leaders on team member performance
Train and mentor fellow team members
Train new Sysco Merchandising associates on the Category Management process
Provide leadership and direction to Analysts and Senior Analysts
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Industrial Engineering or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience
Master’s Degree preferred
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
Requires 7+ years of progressive Sysco and/or industry relevant experience, or an MBA – emphasis on areas such as Supply Chain, Merchandising, Sourcing, Category Management, Procurement
At least 2 years’ experience of team leadership or large, cross functional project leader experience (>15 team members)
Strong analytical skillset and experience, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Success in applying quality management, process improvement, problem solving tools and methodologies. Presenting and interacting with senior management and executive teams
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Sysco Corporate, Shared Services, or Operating Company experience
Business process improvement and reengineering practices and methodologies (e.g. DMAIC, Lean Six Sigma, etc.)
Prior consulting experience (internal or external)
CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and general computer knowledge required
Certified in Supply Chain (I.e. CSCP or CPSM) is preferred
Certified in Lean Six Sigma and/or Six Sigma Green Belt or higher is preferred
