Job Summary:

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Transportation Procurement, the Sr. Carrier Sourcing Manager (CSM) is a leader of people who is responsible for assuring the best sustainable cost management activities, continuous process improvements, strategic development of sourcing initiatives while providing optimal service to support our Sysco Network including all specialty companies and Redistribution Centers (RDC).This role will cover all modes of Sysco controlled shipments, with focus on contracting and negotiating the carrier capacity to meet or exceed service level expectations. This includes managing the creation and deployment of efficient procurement practices for transportation services at the most sustainable cost while meeting service performance targets.

Responsible for the efficient carrier procurement practices of transportation services supporting inbound loads in Sysco’s North American Broadline & Specialty Companies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Process Management

  • Collaborates and delegates ad hoc requests and projects to the Carrier Sourcing Managers to drive cost savings/avoidance initiatives. (e.g. CMU)

  • Conducts & drives process driven procurement activities in support of large/small scale national, regional, and local bids. This includes the end-to-end process – bid strategy, carrier negotiations, & execution in partnership with carriers and peers.

  • Responsible for enforcing Carrier Compliance on Contracted lanes to ensure service performance standards are met for inbound loads.

  • Works closely with National Inbound Transportation Center (NITC), Market Logistics Management (MLM), Supply Chain Inventory Management (SCIM), Supplier Services and other internal teams on Supply Chain to drive network improvements.

  • Responsible for ensuring Rating and Routing Guide Compliance, following Lane Rate Approval process, and data integrity within TMS.

  • Oversees the collaboration with Freight Expense and Claims Management to resolve carrier issues regarding payment and rates.

  • Enforce Sysco Carrier Operational Guidelines.

Process Improvement Initiatives

  • Support optimization initiatives and enhancements to increase carrier acceptance levels and drive topline cost savings initiatives; i.e. seasonal tier pricing, load fill improvement initiatives, fuel management, and dwell-time reduction, etc.

  • Develop a culture of Continuous Process Improvement and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to create network optimization opportunities using internal feedback and data provided by multiple sources/tools.

  • Continuous deployment/improvement of Program Management initiatives such as: Sysco Rail Program, Freight lane matching, Backhaul Change management, and identifying gaps in carrier lane coverage, etc.

Financial/Cost Savings

  • Identify cost improvement opportunities and work with Merchandising teams to solidify actions to drive financial benefits i.e. mode conversion opportunities, FourKites compliance, pick reduction, etc.

  • Responsible for supporting and delivering against financial & operational metrics for all markets including: USBL, CABL, Produce, Non-broadline and Specialty.

  • R esponsible for Cost Management program, which includes securing capacity and managing a cost-effective carrier base in support of Supply Chain.

Carrier Selection & Validation

  • Responsible for overseeing new carrier partner onboarding/network removal across Sysco’s North American Broadline & Specialty Companies.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is required

Education Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree with Supply Chain/Logistics or related-field

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in a supply chain/logistics role required

Experience Preferred:

  • Transportation Procurement

  • Carrier Procurement experience working with a large shipper or carrier preferred

Technical Skills and Abilities:

  • Negotiations – Possess strong negotiation skills, including methodology and planning preparation. Prepare for and conduct negotiations in alignment with sourcing strategy driving outcomes legitimate to both parties.

  • Carrier Selection & Contract Management – Identify and qualify carrier through rigorous criteria in accordance with sourcing strategy and enforce contract compliance.

  • Experience working with complex logistics and transportation networks.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and TMS (Manhattan preferred).

  • Financial Analysis and Planning – Holistic approaches for applying processes and tools related to cost management and financial analysis to maximize margins and cash flow.

  • Strong Communication skills (verbal & written), ability to build alignment, lead change, and drive results. Advanced project management skills are a plus.

  • Conduct and leverage predictive spend analysis and understand policies and controls to ensure compliance. Strong Analytical capabilities.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to work in a dynamic and fluid environment.

  • Carrier procurement experience with a large shipper is plus. Food service or grocery experience is plus.

  • Refrigerated transportation experience across various modes (LTL, TL, Rail, Intermodal, and Consolidations) is a plus.

  • Understands and complies with Sysco Corp. policies, procedures and business conduct, customs, governmental policies, and environmental regulations.

  • Financial P&L responsibility is a plus.
