Role:

This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Sysco’s corporate vision for EHS commitments, goals and approaches by implementing Sysco’s EHS program. Maintain excellent relationships with front line workers and all levels of management to support corporate and regional business objectives. Implement the overall EHS process including: environmental, occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation, fleet safety, contractor management, and transportation compliance through a multi-functional regional team as well as an EHS team of National EHS Director, EHS Projects & Analytics National Manager, and Regional EHS Directors.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of an EHS management system:

  • Perform regulatory and best practice-driven hazard/risk assessments and develop action plans to drive improvement

  • Develop and present site-specific training programs to stakeholders at all levels of the organization

  • Conduct internal site audits and develop reports on EHS performance and tactical and strategic improvement planning

  • Support external audits and progression of corrective action compliance

  • Collect, measure, and analyze regional and site EHS metrics and performance indicators to identify trends for continuous improvement and corrective measures

  • Develop and present site-specific training programs

  • Conduct internal site audits, develop reports and maintain records

  • Monitor, interpret, and assess existing or emerging EHS laws, regulations, regulatory policies, and industry practices; determine operational and business impacts, and develop, integrate, communicate, and execute strategies throughout the region to effectively manage EHS outcomes

  • Assist in the development of standardized safety systems, policies, training, safety campaigns and programs to reduce corporate and human capital risk, and ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal laws

  • Align with Sysco Corporation to implement the corporate EHS strategy

  • Design safety methods to motivate and influence the creation of a world class safety culture

  • Design and execute injury prevention programs/initiatives to motivate and influence the creation of a world class safety culture and minimize injury risk

  • Implement standardized and actionable EHS metrics and communication protocols to leadership teams to drive continuous EHS improvement

  • Implement and support provincial prevention rebate programs/audits (e.g. COR, Safety Groups)

  • Monitor and communicate regulatory changes to the organization, recommending changes to result in compliance and provide technical support when needed

  • Ensure accident prevention/abatement through detailed injury and accident reporting, loss analysis & trending and investigation compliance

  • Evaluate programs to reduce loss, recommending and implementing programs for improvement

  • Accountable for the accuracy of timecards, approvals and scheduling of direct reports

  • Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.

  • Understands both the economic and cultural value that a safe organization with minimal environmental impact brings to an organization.

  • Is willing to drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by providing necessary resources and holding their team accountable to complying with EHS programs, policies, and requirements.

Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About you):

  • 7+ years of progressive EHS program management experience with large national or multi-national companies with multiple sites

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of business management including: supervision; assigning, evaluating, and modifying work functions and processes of executing programs; content and formatting of reports, and presentations

  • Experience actively working with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to strategically solve problems, manage projects, drive performance while maintaining long-term strategies

  • Strong background in and knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal EHS requirements and industry standards/best practices (i.e. acts, regulations, codes, standards, and case law)

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in EHS, risk management safety/industrial/quality/ environmental engineering or a closely related field is required

  • Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to a vehicle is required

  • Travel may be required (less than 10%)

  • Intermediate proficiency in the use of a variety of PC software including all Microsoft products

  • Six sigma methodology certification and practice are highly valued

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation. The National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) and other professionally recognized certifications in the safety, risk management related field are highly desirable
