Position Summary:

Sysco is seeking a driven, talented, and experienced business leader to play a critical role within the Sales Organization. This dynamic leader will be responsible for leading teams and processes associated with the management of the organization's business development operations. Activities include planning, developing, collaborating and delivering the business development strategy for products/services within different customer segments; evaluating, measuring, and managing the department’s P&L (e.g., budgeting, expenditures, profitability, return-on-investment, etc.); ensuring volume/profit targets are met or exceeded.

  • Works closely with the Senior Vice President of Sales to ensure full alignment on the goals and strategies for the Business Development Team

  • Builds a strategic sales plan and platform that will drive consistent execution and results to meet or exceed our annual profit plan goals, working with Sales Strategy, Enterprise Analytics Team (EAT) and Segment Leads

  • Leads execution of Sysco’s business development strategy, while leveraging resources such as Supply Chain, Merchandising, Finance, Marketing, SBS, Specialty companies

  • Leads a high-performing team of senior leaders focused on securing new business in alignment with our company’s financial plan

  • Develops the National Account and Emerging Regional Concept Target Pipeline that will drive new profitable and sustainable sales growth for our Company

  • Creates annual operating plans that meet the expectations of the Company and Executive leadership as well as provide accurate monthly forecasting

  • Manages to that plan and delivers those results each quarter and annually

  • Manages customer and company wiring for key strategic prospects and targets

  • Supports and mentors Business Development team to ensure they have the proper direction, training, tools, and skills to meet or exceed results

  • Champions and leads performance management in all areas to include KPI’s focused on new customer growth, Sales and Piece Growth, GP$ generation, and Market Share increase

  • Coaches, develops, and maintains high-level of performance management throughout the entire sales cycle

  • Offers consistent communication and feedback that gain the trust of team, peers and leadership

  • Recognizes the impact of change on team and supports them through it

  • Leverages One Sysco selling platform to drive sustainable value creation for Sysco National Account Targets

  • Serves as a dynamic ambassador for the organization, both internally and externally, capable of inspiring support from a variety of stakeholders

  • Builds partnerships and leverages all Sysco specialty companies to drive enterprise-wide sales opportunities for Sysco

  • Creates and manages the expense budget for the team

  • Attends industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provides feedback and information on market and creative trends

  • Be a participant and positive reflection on Sysco in various national trade affiliations and groups (COEX, IFMA, NRA, etc...)

  • Stays current with development in the field through participation in seminars, workshops and reading publications


    Education and / or Experience:

    Minimum: ​

    Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience level, AND 15+ years of national account business development experience in a business-to-business professional environment, with 5+ years leading a business-to-business sales team with demonstrated success in new business development


    MBA or equivalent master’s degree

    Professional Skills:

  • Experience working with C-Level Executives including written, presentation and verbal communications

  • Ability to lead, train, motivate, build consensus and manage cross-functional teams

  • Proven ability to influence senior internal and external executives and stakeholders

  • Solid analytical problem-solving skills, including familiarity with analyzing reports & deriving insights from data

  • Ability to express information in terms of profit and loss, food cost and expense ratio

  • Strong financial acumen and ability to properly plan and execute business plans

  • Embraces change and champions corporate initiatives

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor peers and associates

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with and influence a variety of key stakeholders

  • Strong communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with internal and external teams

  • Ability to learn the use of proprietary CRM tools for planning and forecasting sales growth

  • Lead a team of high performing sales associates to deliver against deadlines and produce high-quality results (accuracy, thoroughness in the deliverables they are producing)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to execute multiple initiatives at the same time

  • Business and restaurant operations acumen to manage sophisticated customers

  • Demonstrated experience with building trust with a prospective customer and securing new business

  • Demonstrated skills in the area of consultative selling, networking and negotiations

  • Proactive, self-directed, with the ability to structure a weekly schedule to be successful

  • Understanding of marketing principles, product lines, ordering procedures and Sysco’s credit terms
